MAYOR JUSTIN ELICKERTO JOINDEVELOPER, CITY AND ELECTED LEADERS TOCELEBRATE PROGRESS ONTHE RESIDENCES AT CANAL PLACE

Elicker, developer Yves-Georges A. Joseph II of RJ Development + Advisors LLC and others, will provide a construction update followed by a site walk-thru of the partially-built 176-unit apartment complex, the latest piece of an effort to redevelop the Dixwell/Science Park neighborhood. The $50 million project at 222 Canal Street sits on a parcel of land once owned by the city and purchased under an agreement requiring 58 of the units be set aside as affordable and offered at below market rents.

NEW HAVEN, CT | On Wednesday, September6, at1 p.m., Mayor Justin Elicker will join developers Yves-Georges A. Joseph II and Jason S. Rudnick, and city and elected officials for a construction update and site walk-thru at The Residences at Canal Place, a 176-unit apartment complex at222 Canal Street, New Haven. The $50+million project is the latest piece of a larger effort tore develop a section of the Newhallville /Dixwell neighborhood that was once home to factories such as Winchester Arms and Olin Corporation. Work on the project is already underway, with the first story of the building almost complete. The five-story building will feature studio, one, and two bedroom apartments, with 58 of the176unitsto be offered at below market rate rent sunder a disposition agreement and tax break deal agreement with the city. The agreements set forth requirements for one-third of the apartments to be set aside as affordable to individuals and families qualifying under regional Area Median Income guidelines. Mr. Joseph is Principal of RJ Development +Advisors, the developer of the project. It is being built on a long-vacant 1.7 acre parcel of land known as the Science Park lot and bordered by Ashmun, Canal, and Henry streets. Over the past two decades, Yale University and other developers have built up Science Park as an office and research hub to be used by the university and its academic affiliates. Work on the apartment complex is expected to be completed within 18 months.

In addition to the Mayor Elicker and Mr. Joseph, Alder Jeannette Morrison (Ward 22), and Arlevia Samuel, Executive Director of the city’s Livable City Initiative, are expected to make brief remarks. Joseph will serve as emcee. The site walk-thru will begin at the conclusion of the update.
